𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗞 𝗦PEED 𝗕ECOME 𝗔 𝗕ITTORRENT 𝗕OTTLENECK? Network bandwidth is not the only resource involved in a large peer-to-peer transfer. A BitTorrent client may be receiving pieces from several peers while simultaneously writing those pieces to storage. If disk performance cannot keep up, storage operations can become a limiting factor. ✔ Multiple connections generate data ✔ Pieces must be written to storage ✔ Many simultaneous operations create I/O demand ✔ Storage performance can affect overall throughput This becomes especially noticeable with large files, many torrents, or systems using slower storage. Efficient peer-to-peer performance therefore depends on more than internet speed. Network capacity, CPU resources, memory, and disk performance can all influence the experience. BitTorrent is a reminder that high-speed data transfer is only as strong as the slowest resource supporting it. @BitTorrent @justinsuntron #TRONEcoStar #TRON
