For Infineon’s Thai operation, and for similar projects across South-East Asia, three broad outcomes are possible. The most likely is a gradual ramp in which equipment is installed, materials are qualified and maintenance requirements accumulate slowly. Suppliers earn initial engineering revenue and wait for recurring business. A more optimistic outcome would see production processes transferred successfully across sites and qualified suppliers embedded in a manufacturing recipe that can be replicated for additional products. In that case, the economics become attractive because semiconductor qualification creates switching costs. The less favourable outcome is not necessarily factory failure, but delay: customer approvals take longer, engineering talent becomes scarce, utilisation remains low and suppliers discover that their warehouses and local teams were established several quarters before meaningful revenue arrives. https://tspasemiconductor.substack.com/p/infineon-leads-the-quiet-migration
