On the Eve of Xi Jinping’s Trip to the United States, Core Members of the Chinese Democracy Party International Alliance Were Warmly Received by U.S. Representative Chris Smith Some core members of the Chinese Democracy Party International Alliance arrived in Washington, D.C., ahead of others and were warmly received by U.S. Representative Chris Smith. Representative Smith currently serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC). Several party members who say they have suffered transnational repression met with Representative Smith and submitted written materials and relevant evidence. They described alleged instances of transnational repression and human rights abuses by the Chinese government, including alleged threats, intimidation, and kidnappings targeting victims’ family members in China, as well as harassment and threats that victims say they have experienced in the United States. The victims also submitted materials and leads concerning overseas police stations linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), pro-CCP organizations, and related individuals. They stated that, if substantiated, these activities could threaten the safety of the American public and local communities. The victims also provided leads concerning the activities and possible affiliations of certain individuals and organizations for further verification and investigation. We express our special gratitude to Representative Smith for his continued attention to human rights in China over the past four decades, for exposing human rights abuses by the Chinese government, and for his efforts and contributions toward holding those responsible accountable.
