In the future, regulators need to take a closer look at how tech companies operate. Through algorithms, these companies can influence which voices become mainstream, which are suppressed or drowned out, and which are amplified. At that point, people are essentially being manipulated like puppets—or even subjected to a form of mind control. Everyone is vulnerable to becoming a slave to algorithms and big data. Ordinary workers and even middle-class Americans can easily fall victim to these tactics when large corporations use algorithm-driven management systems to control their work and productivity, turning individuals into overworked, exploited laborers who are expected to keep grinding relentlessly. What is even more troubling is that some people remain completely unaware of what is happening. They genuinely believe they are working hard to build a better life, without realizing that they may be trapped in a system designed to exploit their time, labor, attention, and ambition for the benefit of corporate power.
