my token bill got cut in half this year. my total bill tripled. Silicon Data's index just dropped under $1 per million tokens, down more than half from the peak. meanwhile H100 rents climbed ~40% since last October and sit around $3 an hour. a16z calls it a textbook Jevons paradox. i call it the oldest trick in infrastructure: make the razor cheap, rent the blades by the hour. my read: the token price war is theater. compute is the real bill, and compute is not getting cheaper. price the rent, not the token. #AI #Compute #JevonsParadox
