Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked a power plant in eastern Kharkiv less than 12 hours after President Trump announced an energy ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Trump announced an immediate Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire aimed at halting mutual attacks on energy infrastructure and easing global diesel price pressures. However, neither side immediately formally confirmed the agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the announcement came as a surprise but stated that Ukraine would support the ceasefire if Russia complied. Following the attack, Zelenskyy confirmed that Russian forces had struck the Kharkiv CHP-5 combined heat and power plant. The city is located less than 40 miles from the Russian border.
