Why do only a few people make a lot of money in the end by doing the same thing? When I was doing research on the direct sales industry, I once observed a phenomenon: a few successful people often take a considerable proportion of the profits. Later, it was found that this is not just a matter of direct sales. The World Inequality Report 2026 estimates that the richest 10% of the world’s adults earn 53% of their income and own 75% of their wealth. A more extreme example comes from a global stock study. Bessembinder et al. analyzed 63,785 listed companies between 1990 and 2020 and found the best-performing 2.39% of companies, which explains the net wealth creation of the whole market. This is not to say that other companies have not made money, but that a few big winners determine the overall long-term results. The mechanisms of direct sales, investment and entrepreneurship are different. But there is one thing worth thinking about: participating in a market does not mean that you can share most of the profits of this market. It is very important to understand the rules. What‘s more important is to find a position where you really have the opportunity to create value.
