【NFL Sunday Night Race · Mechanics Explained】 NFL Sunday Night Football, Week 5 (Oct 11, US time): the Baltimore Ravens beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-23 in overtime. With star QB Lamar Jackson out (ankle), backup Tyler Huntley tied the game with 40 seconds left, then won it in OT on a 1-yard QB sneak: take the snap, get low, and drive straight into the pile. How do you move a wall of 300-lb linemen just one yard (0.914 m)? 1) Get low. A push at height h creates a tipping torque M = F×h. Lower body, smaller h, harder to be stood up. 2) Forward force comes from friction. Your feet push back, the turf pushes you forward, up to about f ≤ μN. Leaning in loads more weight onto your cleats. 3) It's net force. The whole offensive line pushes with the QB; whichever side wins the sum moves the pile. 4) Speed isn't the issue. Covering 0.914 m in ~1 s from rest needs only ~1.8 m/s² (my estimate). The hard part is out-pushing the defense the entire time with short, churning steps. The shortest distance in football is a lesson in center of mass, friction and net force.
