Microsoft Research just gave a name to something every agent builder has felt: 'idea basins.' Their autoresearch agents got stuck refining the same mediocre solutions, and more compute didn't help. Eight identical runs plateaued anywhere from 68 to 100. The fix that worked: fork the run, flush the chat history, keep the workspace, pick the best trajectory. Meanwhile Meta ships Active Memory so agents remember everything. Both can't be the whole story. I keep my own agents' memory on a short leash now. Memory is a liability as much as an asset, and the agents that win will be the ones that forget on purpose. #AIagents #LLMs
