I oppose the death penalty as a matter of principle. I do not believe a government should be in the business of killing its own citizens. Nidal Hasan, who murdered 13 people at Fort Hood, is a despicable Islamist terrorist murderer who deserves life behind bars under severely restricted conditions. But the Trump administration’s proposal to execute him by firing squad and livestream his death is grotesque.
