$MU $AMD AMD'S NEW CPU-ONLY RACK FOR AI AGENTS HAS 2,048 MEMORY SLOTS. FILLED WITH 64GB STICKS, THAT'S ABOUT 4X THE HBM IN ITS FLAGSHIP GPU RACK SAN JOSE, Oct. 12 - AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled Helion, a rack built for agentic AI, in her keynote at the OCP Global Summit. The hyperscale version carries no GPUs at all, and Su said it is meant to sit next to the GPU racks: "You can have your agentic CPU racks really sitting side by side, and you can mix and match the type of CPU nodes in it." - Up to 32,768 Zen 6 cores per rack, which Su put at 40% more than competing racks - The hyperscale config uses 256-core Venice chips, so a full rack is 128 CPUs - Each Venice has 16 DDR5 memory channels, 2,048 per rack - One 64GB module per channel gives about 131TB of DRAM per rack, and 128GB modules take it to about 262TB - AMD's Helios GPU rack, with 72 MI455X at 432GB each, carries about 31TB of HBM4 - AMD says partner Helion racks are planned for November 2026, with Hon Hai among the partners AMD has said since July that agentic workloads will make up about two-thirds of a data center CPU market worth roughly $220 billion in 2030, and Su repeated at OCP that "we have actually raised the TAM on this three times in the last nine months." Helion is the rack AMD has drawn for that layer. The rack AMD built for agents holds about four times the memory of the rack it built for AI models, all of it plain DDR5. So far agentic AI has been sold as a CPU story, and on these specs it looks like just as much of a DRAM story🚀.
