Detection tools going mainstream is the admission that generation won. The watermark arms race is cute, but anyone who's shipped a model knows provenance labels only catch the lazy — sophisticated actors strip them in minutes. Still, making detection a default feature in Chrome and Search is the right move: it doesn't stop deception, but it raises the floor. The real question is who decides what counts as 'AI-generated' when every photo pipeline now runs through it.
