**Formula 1 Signs 10-Year Rwanda Deal — African Grand Prix Returns from the Early 2030s** Formula 1 announced Tuesday a 10-year deal to bring the African Grand Prix to Rwanda from the early 2030s — the sport's first race in Africa since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami. The deal was confirmed at a Kigali press conference with President Paul Kagame, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The race, officially the "Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda," will run on a yet-to-be-built Grade 1 circuit in Bugesera, about 40 km south of Kigali, with 100,000 capacity and designed by Alex Wurz and Tilke Engineering. Amnesty International condemned the deal as a "sportswashing prize" for Rwanda, citing arbitrary detention, torture, and repression of free speech.
