Someone ran the math: eight years of a $200/month Claude subscription buys a four-GPU local box that runs a team at about 30 tokens a second. A cloud subscription buys you the newest model, always. Local hardware buys you one thing: the next request costs nothing extra. My split: high-volume, repeatable work moves local first. The cloud keeps the jobs where the newest model actually matters.
