http://Character.AI once hit a $1B valuation and proved people would spend hours chatting with AI characters. It just filed Chapter 11 with a $20M stalking-horse bid from Disney for a non-exclusive IP license. Court filings show it was still losing $8–9M a month even after cost cuts, with compute alone running ~$56M in the first eight months of 2026 against peak monthly revenue of ~$5.3M. High engagement creates high inference costs. Legal overhang then made fresh capital impossible. Big Tech already extracted the founders and core tech via a prior licensing deal. Residual consumer AI businesses are left with the bills and the liability. The infrastructure buildout still needs durable demand. This is a reminder that “lots of users” does not automatically equal sustainable GPU utilization. #AI #Semiconductors #ComputeEconomics $NVDA
