A Jurassic bird species named Yangyuanornis has recently discovered in Fujian, China. Dating back approximately 150 million years, it is currently the earliest known flightless bird. With short forelimbs suited for running on land, it still retained characteristic dinosaur claws. The research paper was just published in Nature, challenging the old dogma that 'early birds were all practicing flight.' This adds another branch to the evolutionary story.
