SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Firefighters Friday battled two wind-driven brush fires that exploded to hundreds of acres in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano, burning homes and forcing evacuations and freeway closures within hours. Crews near Via La Mirada reported as many as four homes damaged or destroyed. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion; his condition was unknown. At least eight structures burned in the areas of Avenida Calita, Via La Mirada, and Via De Agua. Here’s video shot by a friend whose house sits directly across from the fire. As of 5:30 p.m., the I-5 has reopened and the fire is under control. Thank you to the firefighters and all service members.
