One piece of discourse frequently repeated in China about the Chinese-American community is that its ethnic Identity is unsustainable beyond the second generation: the girls marry out and the guys die alone as incels. Of course the identity can be kept afloat by new immigrants but let's explore the "marry out" bit, assuming that immigration from China will taper off for whatever reason. The typical half-Japanese in America ends up with far stronger Japanese language skills than the typical half-Chinese, and that is partially because typically the non-Japanese parent entered the relationship with strong interest in Japanese culture and language but the non-Chinese parent did not. Language is one of the core tenets of ethnic identity so as a result, half-Japanese Americans are typically much closer to Japan and Japanese identity than half-Chinese Americans. As China increases its cultural pull, through brands, video games, food chains, tourism, media, the usual, more non-Chinese marrying Chinese will be doing so motivated by actual interest in Chinese culture and language, so future half-Chinese will likely maintain closer ties to Chinese identity and China as a nation.
