I was just thinking about last year when a friend asked if I could help him buy some Zhipu shares. I told him I thought the stock would definitely drop below its issue price within a week of launching. Sure enough, on the second day, it came within a dollar of breaking issue, though it managed to bounce back after that. It eventually climbed to over 10,000, and now it sits around several hundred. Looking back, if I had just gone ahead and bought it for him anyway, he would have made a decent profit. At the time, I also told him that from my perspective, MiniMax shares had much higher growth potential. At the very least, MiniMax was actually bringing in revenue from its overseas ventures, which makes for a much better story on a financial report. But things never quite pan out the way you anticipate. I am not sure if that trajectory makes any sense, or if it is just a quirk of the Hong Kong stock market combined with some heavy-duty capital maneuvering. Either way, I always feel like my advice cost him a serious payday, which is why I haven't dared invite him out to dinner since last year.
