Reuters Oct 16, picking up a Politico report from three people familiar with the outreach: Anthropic has been quietly walking Capitol Hill through a draft frontier AI safety bill. An Anthropic spokesperson told Reuters the draft tracks the Advanced AI Framework the company published earlier this year. Per that report, the bar to block a model is steep. Government action only kicks in for a foreseeable, imminent risk of more than $1 billion in damages, or of killing or seriously injuring more than 50 people, and only for bio weapons, a model slipping developer controls, or a cyberattack. Independent evaluators would register with Commerce and have 72 hours to flag imminent risk after finishing an assessment. Next tell is whether any committee actually marks up this language before the IPO window, or whether rival labs push a different threshold.
