You can't ban math. Washington just tried anyway. DHS published the order Tuesday. Federal civilian agencies must: 1. Rip DeepSeek products out of their IT systems 2. Stop buying anything from the company 3. Drop third-party services built on its models — the clause nobody's reading But the weights are open. Downloadable. Running on machines all over the world right now. My read: this was never about the code. You don't secure anything by banning a logo while the math is everywhere. It's a declaration — Washington is done pretending open weights are neutral infrastructure. And the real blast radius isn't DeepSeek. It's every SaaS vendor selling to the feds, now forced to prove there's no DeepSeek hiding anywhere in their stack. That's the compliance earthquake inside the press release. So: security policy, or a press release with a Federal Register number? You tell me.
