$TER $FORM NVIDIA's Dan Kuchta told the PECC Summit on Oct. 20 that supply, manufacturing throughput and test capacity are now the priorities for getting co-packaged optics into production, according to Converge Digest's report from the room. NVIDIA screens each optical engine before it gets soldered on, since there's little practical rework after that. APC's first CPO test procedures, out the same day, lay out automated test at wafer, bar, die and packaged-device stages. Device-specific probe setups and pass/fail limits are slated for a later version. The test vendors are already moving. FormFactor ($FORM) said in its Aug. 4 quarterly filing that Systems revenue growth came primarily from Triton, its high-volume CPO test system. On Oct. 12, Teradyne ($TER), whose filings list silicon photonics among the things its testers test, agreed to make a $300 million strategic equity investment in FormFactor, with silicon photonics named in the collaboration. I'd expect the pass/fail limits in the next APC version to turn CPO test into a line item buyers order in volume.
