Even Google can't get enough compute. That's the line that stuck with me from Sundar Pichai's new interview with Alex Heath. Not the Gemini 4 Argon victory lap, not the DeepMind leadership shuffle. The CEO of the company that designs its own TPUs just admitted the bottleneck is real: Google Cloud is actively giving up short-term revenue to feed frontier model training. His words: "forgoing short-term revenues." The money side is just as loud. Alphabet posted negative free cash flow for the first time in its 22-year public history, on a Q2 capex print of $45B, up 100% year over year. And Pichai confirmed customers now find it "extremely difficult" to lock in 2027 compute capacity. My read: the capex debate keeps asking bubble-or-not, like it's a belief you pick. It's not. When the constraint is physical chips and power, spending $200B a year isn't confidence. It's fear of what happens if the model works and you're the one without chips. So when the landlord of the cloud is rationing its own tenants, what is everyone else supposed to do? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJBSNEFdm8c #AI #Compute #Google
