I was feeling pretty good about myself. I'd survived the lightning. I'd discovered the power of the Heavy Bowgun. And I'd learned a very important lesson. IF YOU CAN'T BEAT A MONSTER FAIRLY… FIND AN UNFAIR WAY TO BEAT IT!!! 🌚🤣 But my next opponent? Oh boy. This one was going to be a completely different nightmare. Because waiting for me was… KUSHALA DAORA!!! THE STEEL DRAGON!!! 🐉🌪️ A legendary Elder Dragon. A creature covered in metallic scales. A monster capable of controlling powerful winds. And unfortunately… ONE OF THE MOST ANNOYING OPPONENTS I'D ENCOUNTERED SO FAR!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🐉 WAIT… TRAPS DON'T WORK?! When I first encountered Kushala Daora, I quickly discovered something horrifying. IT WAS AN ELDER DRAGON!!! And that meant… MY TRAPS WOULDN'T WORK!!! 😭 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Remember how much I loved preparing traps? Against the Bulldrome? Traps! Against difficult monsters? More traps! Whenever I needed extra opportunities to attack? TRAPS!!! But Kushala Daora? NOPE!!! Pitfall Traps? No. Shock Traps? Also no. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T TRAP IT?! 💀 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Excuse me?! I spent all this time learning how to prepare for hunts! And now you're telling me that one of my favorite strategies is completely useless?! THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST TRAP ENTHUSIASTS!!! 🤣🤣🤣 But unfortunately… That was only the beginning. 🌪️ THE DAMN WIND BARRIER!!! Kushala Daora had another ability. And this one was even worse. A WIND BARRIER!!! A powerful aura of wind surrounding its body. Making it incredibly frustrating to approach and attack! I'd try to get close. WHOOSH!!! Pushed away! I'd try again. WHOOSH!!! Pushed away again! WHAT THE HELL?! 😭 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I CAN'T EVEN GET CLOSE TO YOU!!! And while I was struggling against that ridiculous wind… Kushala Daora was perfectly happy to keep attacking me! Wind attacks! Charges! Flying around! And generally making my life miserable! QUEST FAILED!!! HAHAHAHA!!! Okay! Fine! Let's try again! QUEST FAILED!!! ... Again! QUEST FAILED!!! ... AGAIN?! QUEST FAILED!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! 💀🤣🤣🤣 💀 I WAS GETTING ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED!!! And I mean it. I KEPT DYING!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I tried fighting it. I tried finding openings. I tried getting around that annoying wind barrier. But Kushala Daora was not cooperating! Not even a little! Every time I thought I was making progress… Something went wrong. The wind pushed me away. The dragon attacked. I got knocked down. And before I knew it… QUEST FAILED!!! Again. And again. And again. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! At some point, I stopped feeling like a hunter. I felt like a piece of garbage being blown around by a hurricane! WHOOSH!!! 🌪️ "AAAAAHHH!!!" WHOOSH!!! "STOP!!!" WHOOSH!!! "LET ME HIT YOU, YOU DAMN DRAGON!!!" 😭🤣 And eventually… I reached my limit. ALRIGHT!!! I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!! 🌚 🔫 TIME TO CHANGE MY STRATEGY!!! You know what? If Kushala Daora didn't want me getting close… THEN I WOULDN'T GET CLOSE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I returned to the village. Went through my equipment options. And decided to prepare a different weapon. A LIGHT BOWGUN WITH RAPID-FIRE PIERCE AMMO!!! 🔫🔥 YES!!! If the Steel Dragon wanted to surround itself with wind… I'd fight from a distance! And if I could create an opening… I'd unload as much ammunition as possible! But there was still one problem. Kushala Daora could fly. And that damn wind barrier was still going to be troublesome. So I needed another solution. Something capable of interrupting its attacks. Something that could bring it down. Something that would give me the opening I needed. And then… I HAD AN IDEA!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 💥 FLASH BOMBS!!! YES!!! FLASH BOMBS!!! 💥💥💥 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Remember those? Those wonderful little items capable of blinding monsters! Well… I decided I was going to use them. A LOT!!! And when I say a lot… I don't mean just bringing a few Flash Bombs and hoping for the best. Oh no. I WAS PREPARING FOR WAR!!! 🌚🤣 I gathered Flash Bombs. I gathered materials to craft more Flash Bombs during the hunt. I prepared ammunition. And I made sure I had enough supplies to keep fighting! Because I had one very simple objective. IF KUSHALA DAORA WANTED TO FLY… I WAS GOING TO MAKE IT FALL!!! 🐉💥 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🌪️ ROUND TWO: THE STEEL DRAGON VS. THE FLASH BOMB FACTORY!!! And so… I returned. Kushala Daora appeared. The wind began swirling. Its wings spread. And the dragon prepared to attack. But this time… I WAS READY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! FLASH BOMB!!! 💥 FLASH!!! The dragon was blinded! Its movement was interrupted! And when I caught it in the air… DOWN IT WENT!!! CRASH!!! 🐉💥 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YES!!! THAT'S WHAT I WANTED!!! With Kushala Daora knocked down and its troublesome wind aura temporarily disrupted… I finally had my chance! I raised my Light Bowgun. Aimed. And… RATATATATATATATA!!! 🔫🔥 PIERCE AMMO!!! RAPID FIRE!!! FLASH BOMB!!! GET DOWN AGAIN!!! It tried to fly. FLASH!!! NO FLYING!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! At this point, I could practically imagine Kushala Daora screaming at me. "I AM AN ELDER DRAGON!!!" "I CONTROL THE WINDS!!!" "I AM A LEGENDARY CREATURE!!!" And my response? "THAT'S NICE." "NOW LOOK AT THIS!!!" 💥🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! FLASH!!! RATATATATATATATA!!! FLASH!!! RATATATATATATATA!!! FLASH!!! RATATATATATATATA!!! WELCOME TO MY ANTI-AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM!!! 🌚🔫 🎒 AND WHEN I RAN LOW ON FLASH BOMBS… There was another beautiful part of this strategy. I BROUGHT CRAFTING MATERIALS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Because the game limited how many completed items I could carry. But that didn't mean I had to stop once I'd used my initial supply! I could bring materials. Craft more during the hunt. And continue the fight! RUNNING LOW ON FLASH BOMBS?! CRAFT MORE!!! NEED ANOTHER OPENING?! THROW ANOTHER ONE!!! DRAGON TRYING TO FLY AGAIN?! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! 💥🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I wasn't just fighting Kushala Daora anymore. I was running a small flash-bomb manufacturing operation in the middle of a monster hunt! WELCOME TO THE FACTORY!!! TODAY'S PRODUCT: ELDER DRAGON HUMILIATION!!! 🏭🐉 🤣🤣🤣 💀 BUT IT STILL WASN'T EASY!!! Now, don't misunderstand. This strategy made the fight much more manageable. But it didn't mean I suddenly defeated Kushala Daora on my first attempt! OH NO!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I STILL DIED!!! MANY TIMES!!! Even with my new Light Bowgun. Even with all those Flash Bombs. Even with the extra crafting materials. Kushala Daora was still dangerous! Mistakes were still punished. Bad positioning could still get me killed. And sometimes… Things simply didn't go according to plan! QUEST FAILED!!! Again! QUEST FAILED!!! Again! QUEST FAILED!!! GOD DAMN IT!!! 😭🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! But there was an important difference now. Previously, I'd felt completely overwhelmed. The wind barrier was frustrating. I couldn't approach comfortably. And I couldn't find a reliable way to create opportunities. But now? I HAD A PLAN!!! And every attempt helped me execute it a little better. 🔥 ONE MORE TRY!!! So I kept going. More ammunition. More Flash Bombs. More preparation. More attempts. And slowly… Things began improving. I became more comfortable using the Light Bowgun. I learned to take advantage of the openings I created. I got better at managing my supplies. And then… After countless failed attempts… After all those deaths… After all that preparation… After all those Flash Bombs… IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!! 🏆 THE STEEL DRAGON FALLS!!! KUSHALA DAORA COLLAPSED!!! 🐉💀 ... QUEST COMPLETE!!! 🎉🎉🎉 ... I DID IT!!! I FINALLY DID IT!!! THE STEEL DRAGON IS DOWN!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 OH MY GOD!!! FINALLY!!! AFTER ALL THOSE FAILED ATTEMPTS!!! AFTER ALL THAT WIND!!! AFTER ALL THOSE DEATHS!!! I FINALLY DEFEATED KUSHALA DAORA!!! And I have to say… That victory felt AMAZING!!! Not because it was easy. Not because I'd discovered a completely effortless trick. But because I'd been getting destroyed over and over again… And eventually found a strategy that allowed me to win! THE WIND BARRIER COULDN'T STOP ME FOREVER!!! THE STEEL DRAGON HAD FINALLY FALLEN!!! 🔥 🧠 EVERY MONSTER DEMANDS A DIFFERENT SOLUTION Looking back, I find it fascinating how much my hunting style had evolved. Against the Bulldrome? I practiced dodging and hammer attacks until I could defeat it consistently. Against the Yian Kut-Ku? I spent nearly an entire month learning how to survive. Against the Cephadrome? I experimented with different weapons. Against the Plesioth? I discovered the convenience of the Light Bowgun. Against the Shogun Ceanataur? I simply kept playing until my skills improved enough to finish the hunt. Against the Kirin? I HID IN A HOLE AND SHOT IT!!! 🕳️🔫🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And against Kushala Daora? I BUILT AN ENTIRE STRATEGY AROUND FLASH BOMBS AND RAPID-FIRE PIERCE AMMO!!! Every monster presented a different problem. And every problem encouraged me to think differently. Sometimes the solution was skill. Sometimes it was patience. Sometimes it was preparation. Sometimes it was changing weapons. And sometimes… IT WAS THROWING SO MANY FLASH BOMBS THAT A LEGENDARY DRAGON COULDN'T ENJOY BEING A DRAGON!!! 💥🐉 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🌚 A MESSAGE TO KUSHALA DAORA Dear Kushala Daora, You are magnificent. Your metallic scales are beautiful. Your wings are impressive. Your ability to control the wind is incredible. And your status as an Elder Dragon is well deserved. And you killed me more times than I care to remember! So I made a decision. If you were going to control the wind… I WAS GOING TO CONTROL THE LIGHT!!! 💥 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You brought hurricanes. And another reason why I still remember Monster Hunter 2 so fondly after all these years. I started this adventure as a beginner who struggled against the Bulldrome. I spent nearly a month trying to defeat the Yian Kut-Ku. I learned to experiment with weapons. I learned to prepare supplies. I learned to use the environment. And now… I'd finally overcome one of the most intimidating opponents I'd encountered. AN ELDER DRAGON!!! 🐉 Of course, my methods weren't always elegant. Sometimes they weren't particularly honorable either. But honestly? WHO CARES?! 🌚🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'M A MONSTER HUNTER!!! NOT A MONSTER DUELIST!!! And if a legendary dragon wants to make my life miserable… It had better be prepared for me to return with a mountain of ammunition and enough Flash Bombs to ruin its entire day!
