Taiwan just saw the first semiconductor strike in its entire history. This morning at 9 a.m., workers walked out of Micron's Taoyuan plant for 24 hours. Their demand: a one-time bonus worth 83 months of salary — nearly seven years of pay in a single check — plus 15% of quarterly operating profit, permanently. Micron countered with 68 months as a one-off. The union rejected it: no money without a long-term formula. Then the vote came back 1,994 to 14. That's 99% in favor of striking. The backdrop is the AI memory boom. Samsung's memory union already tied bonuses to 10.5% of chip-division operating profit; SK Hynix agreed to 10% of annual profit, uncapped. Taoyuan is asking for more. Meanwhile Micron's other union in Taichung — the bigger site, where the HBM for AI servers is actually made — signed its own deal the day before and sat this one out. So the people building the memory that powers the AI boom want a cut of the AI boom. Late-night question, and I want real numbers: if your company had a record year off one product line, what percentage of the windfall should go to the workers who built it? Name your number and why.
