God placed Adam in the garden with abundant freedom and one clear boundary: “You are free to eat of all the trees in the garden. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, you are doomed to die” (Genesis 2:16-17, NJB). They chose to break that single command. Sin entered the world through that one act, and with it death, which then spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned (Romans 5:12, NJB). No one is exempt. “All have sinned and lack God’s glory” (Romans 3:23, NJB). We inherit a fallen nature and we also add our own sins. That is why we cannot save ourselves and why we need the second Adam, Jesus Christ, whose perfect obedience and sacrificial death reverse what the first Adam brought in. Only Jesus Christ can save.✝️
