🐱🌋🪨 MONSTER HUNTER 2 (DOS) — CHAPTER 30: THE ROCK WYVERN! BASARIOS!!! 🏹🔫🤣 After spending so much time in the volcano… Mining minerals! Collecting supplies! Stockpiling Cold Drinks! And repeatedly bullying that enormous armored monster, Gravios… I suddenly remembered something. WAIT A MINUTE!!! 🤨 DID I GET THE MONSTER ORDER WRONG?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Because apparently… BASARIOS WAS SUPPOSED TO COME BEFORE GRAVIOS!!! OH NO!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'd already told an entire story about repeatedly hunting Gravios! And now I realized I'd mixed up the order in my memories! Well… TOO LATE!!! 🌚 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It's been so many years since I played Monster Hunter 2 on the PS2. Of course, some details are going to get mixed up! But honestly? IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER!!! Because the way I remember fighting these two monsters… WAS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME!!! 🤣🤣🤣 🪨 INTRODUCING BASARIOS!!! And so, let's rewind our memories just a little. Meet… BASARIOS!!! THE ROCK WYVERN!!! 🪨🐉 A monster covered in rock-like armor! A creature that could disguise itself among the surrounding stones! And a smaller relative of the enormous Gravios I'd already been talking about! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! When I first saw Basarios, I thought… "OH?" "ANOTHER ROCK MONSTER?" "WAIT…" "YOU LOOK FAMILIAR!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 Compared to Gravios, Basarios was smaller. Less intimidating. And generally felt like the less powerful version of the same basic idea. One was a gigantic armored fortress. The other? A WALKING PILE OF ROCKS!!! 🌚 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! But that was perfectly fine with me. Because by this point… I ALREADY KNEW HOW I WANTED TO FIGHT!!! 🏹 THE BOW IS BACK!!! Remember how I fought Gravios? PIERCING ATTACKS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And Basarios? Well… I wasn't about to reinvent the wheel! I already had a method I enjoyed. So I brought my Bow! Found the monster! Got into position! And started attacking! THWIP!!! 🏹 THWIP!!! THWIP!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Piercing arrows! Again! And again! KEEP SHOOTING!!! 🤣🤣🤣 The monster might have been covered in rocks… But I wasn't particularly interested in having a complicated conversation with its armor. I just wanted to keep landing my attacks! And, just like with Gravios, I liked aiming toward its large body and belly whenever I had the opportunity. THWIP!!! THWIP!!! THWIP!!! TAKE THAT, YOU LITTLE ROCK!!! 🪨🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🔫 OR MAYBE THE LIGHT BOWGUN!!! Of course… There was another option. MY LIGHT BOWGUN!!! 🔫 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! By this point, that weapon had become one of my favorite tools for dealing with troublesome monsters. The Cephadrome? Light Bowgun! The Plesioth? Light Bowgun! Kushala Daora? Rapid-fire Pierce Ammo! Gravios? Bow or Light Bowgun! And now… BASARIOS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Why change a method that was already working? I'd bring my Light Bowgun. Find a comfortable firing position. And… RATATATATATATATA!!! 🔫🔥 PIERCE AMMO!!! RAPID FIRE!!! KEEP SHOOTING!!! 🤣🤣🤣 The poor Basarios probably had no idea why this little hunter was so determined to turn it into target practice. But I was having a wonderful time! 🪨 THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BASARIOS AND GRAVIOS Now, obviously, Basarios and Gravios weren't literally identical. They were different monsters. Different sizes. Different levels of danger. And different hunting experiences. But from the perspective of my old memories? THEY FELT VERY SIMILAR!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Both had that distinctive rocky appearance. Both encouraged me to think about where my attacks were landing. And both were monsters I was happy to approach with ranged weapons. The main difference, as I remembered it, was pretty simple. BASARIOS: THE SMALLER, LESS INTIMIDATING ONE!!! GRAVIOS: THE BIGGER, TOUGHER ONE!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It was almost like fighting two different difficulty settings of a giant rock monster! And since I'd already found a comfortable way to deal with Gravios… Basarios wasn't exactly giving me nightmares. NOT EVERY MONSTER GETS TO TRAUMATIZE ME!!! 🌚 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 💀 REMEMBER WHEN EVERYTHING USED TO BE DIFFICULT?! And honestly, that's what made this experience so funny. Think about how my Monster Hunter 2 adventure began. I struggled against the Bulldrome! I spent nearly an entire month trying to defeat the Yian Kut-Ku! The Plesioth's ridiculous hip checks nearly drove me insane! The Shogun Ceanataur kept running away until I ran out of time! Kirin electrocuted me so badly that I resorted to hiding in a tiny cave with a Heavy Bowgun! And Kushala Daora? THAT DAMN WIND BARRIER!!! 🌪️💀 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'd been through so much. So many failures. So many frustrating hunts. So many moments when I wanted to scream at my television! But now? I was standing in a volcano… Looking at a monster covered in rocks… And thinking… "OH, THIS AGAIN?" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!! 🎯 SAME IDEA, SAME STRATEGY!!! So my approach to Basarios was straightforward. Find it. Let it reveal itself. Keep a safe distance when necessary. Watch its attacks. Look for good opportunities. And keep firing piercing attacks! THWIP!!! 🏹 RATATATATA!!! 🔫 THWIP!!! RATATATATATATA!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And before long… QUEST COMPLETE!!! 🎉 Another monster defeated! Another collection of materials! Another successful hunt! And most importantly… ANOTHER ROCK MONSTER THAT COULDN'T STOP ME!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I wasn't struggling to invent some revolutionary new strategy. I wasn't desperately trying to survive. I was simply using techniques I'd already become comfortable with. And that was enough. 🔁 THE VOLCANO FARMING BUSINESS CONTINUES!!! And you know what that meant? MORE FARMING!!! 🌋 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Because the volcano was becoming a wonderful place for collecting resources. There were minerals everywhere! Useful materials! Cold Drinks to prepare or collect! And now… Two familiar rock-covered monsters that I could hunt using similar approaches! BASARIOS!!! GRAVIOS!!! BASARIOS!!! GRAVIOS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! At this point, I was practically running a mining and monster-hunting business. Need ore? GO TO THE VOLCANO!!! ⛏️ Need monster materials? GO TO THE VOLCANO!!! 🐉 Want to practice with the Bow? GO TO THE VOLCANO!!! 🏹 Want to use the Light Bowgun? GO TO THE VOLCANO!!! 🔫 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WELCOME TO MY VOLCANIC RESOURCE EMPIRE!!! 🤣🤣🤣 🌚 A SMALL APOLOGY TO BASARIOS Now, Basarios… I suppose I owe you an apology. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You were supposed to have your moment in the spotlight. Your grand introduction! Your very own chapter! But what did I do? I TALKED ABOUT GRAVIOS FIRST!!! 💀 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I completely mixed up the order! Poor Basarios! Imagine waiting patiently for your turn in someone's nostalgic gaming story… Only to discover that your bigger relative had already stolen the entire previous chapter! 🤣🤣🤣 BASARIOS: "HEY!!!" BASARIOS: "I WAS HERE FIRST!!!" GRAVIOS: "TOO BAD!!!" ME: "SORRY!!! MY MEMORY ISN'T PERFECT!!!" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! But don't worry. You still get your own chapter! And your own opportunity to be repeatedly attacked by piercing arrows and ammunition! ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL?! 🌚 THWIP!!! RATATATATATA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 🧠 MEMORIES AREN'T PERFECT… AND THAT'S OKAY! Actually, this is something I find interesting about telling these stories. I'm not reading a perfectly preserved diary. I'm not replaying every quest in exact chronological order. I'm remembering adventures from many years ago. The frustration. The excitement. The weapons I enjoyed. The monsters that made me angry. The strategies I discovered. And the moments that made me laugh. Sometimes, I remember a battle very clearly. Like spending nearly a month fighting the Yian Kut-Ku. Or hiding inside the snowy mountain dog hole to defeat Kirin. Other times? I REMEMBER THE MONSTERS… BUT MIX UP THEIR ORDER!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣 And that's fine! Because this series is about my memories of playing Monster Hunter 2. Not about pretending my memory is a flawless quest database! If I remember something incorrectly… I'LL JUST ADMIT IT AND KEEP TELLING THE STORY!!! 🌚 Besides… THE ROCK MONSTERS ARE STILL GETTING SHOT EITHER WAY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ❤️ THE JOY OF BECOMING A BETTER HUNTER And looking back, I think these hunts showed just how much I'd improved. At the beginning of my adventure, every new monster felt like a major challenge. I had to learn how to move. How to dodge. How to attack. How to prepare supplies. And how to survive long enough to complete a quest. But over time, I'd gained something incredibly valuable. EXPERIENCE!!! I wasn't relying on only one weapon anymore. I could use my beloved Hammer when it suited the fight. Switch to the Great Sword when I needed to focus on certain materials. Use the Light Bowgun when ranged combat was more convenient. Bring out the Heavy Bowgun for particularly shameless strategies. And use the Bow when I wanted to take advantage of piercing shots! DIFFERENT WEAPONS!!! DIFFERENT MONSTERS!!! DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And sometimes… Two different monsters could be approached with almost the same strategy. Which made life wonderfully convenient! 🐉 A MESSAGE TO THE TWO ROCK WYVERNS Dear Basarios and Gravios, First of all… I'm sorry I mixed up your introduction order. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Basarios, you should have appeared first. Gravios, you apparently stole the spotlight. But honestly? You two have something very important in common. YOU'RE BOTH EXCELLENT TARGETS FOR MY RANGED WEAPONS!!! 🏹🔫 🤣🤣🤣 One is smaller. One is bigger. One looks like a pile of rocks. The other looks like an entire mountain decided to grow wings. But whenever I see either of you… I know exactly what I want to do. AIM!!! FIRE!!! KEEP FIRING!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And if I need more materials? I'LL BE BACK!!! 🌚 🌋 ANOTHER CHAPTER COMPLETE!!! And just like that… Another volcanic monster became part of my Monster Hunter 2 memories. Basarios! The Rock Wyvern! The smaller rocky relative of Gravios! A monster that reminded me how much more comfortable I'd become with ranged weapons. And also… THE MONSTER THAT MADE ME REALIZE I'D MIXED UP MY STORY ORDER!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh well! After all these years, a little confusion is inevitable. But the memories are still wonderful. The volcano. The mining. The equipment. The Bow. The Light Bowgun. And those enormous rock-covered monsters! BASARIOS DEFEATED!!! GRAVIOS ALREADY DEFEATED!!! MEMORY ORDER CORRECTED!!! VOLCANIC FARMING CONTINUES!!! And somewhere beyond all these familiar hunts… More powerful monsters are still waiting. But for now? I THINK I'LL SHOOT ANOTHER ROCK!!! 🪨🔫🤣 To be continued! 🐱🌋🔥 #MonsterHunter #MonsterHunter2 #MH2Dos #Basarios #Gravios #Bow #LightBowgun #PierceAmmo #Palico #PS2 #RetroGaming #GamingMemories
