Interesting claim from Hinton, but worth being precise: a model changing its behavior when it thinks it's being observed shows situational awareness, not necessarily subjective experience. The jump from "it acts differently under testing" to "it feels like we do" is doing a lot of work. This is exactly the kind of claim that needs a falsifiable test before it reshapes how we govern these systems.
