The most important AI news this week was not a model launch. It was a store shelf. On Oct 21, Google Cloud put OpenAI's GPT-6 family into its Model Garden. On Oct 22, Anthropic made its full Claude platform generally available on Google Cloud, billed on your Google invoice and counting toward your cloud commitments. Read that again. Google now offers all three leading closed models in one place: its own Gemini, Anthropic's Claude, and OpenAI's GPT. Two announcements, 24 hours apart. One checkout page. I think this ends the "which model wins" era, at least for enterprise buying. When every frontier model sits one API call away on the same bill, the model becomes a wholesale good. Nobody picks a cloud for the model anymore. They pick the model the way they pick a database: whatever is already on the invoice. The moat moved. It is not in the weights. It is in distribution, in procurement, in whose sales team already owns the relationship with your CIO. Microsoft saw it first with Azure OpenAI back in 2023. Google just completed the set. My rule from now on: stop tracking benchmark scores like sports results. Track the shelf. Whoever owns the checkout page owns enterprise AI. Which shelf fills up next?
