šŸ±šŸ—¼šŸ™ MONSTER HUNTER 2 (DOS) — CHAPTER 37: YAMA TSUKAMI!!! THE FLOATING ELDER DRAGON!!! — THE REAL ENEMY IS TIME!!! šŸŽ®šŸ¤£ Last time… I told you about my encounter with White Fatalis. A legendary dragon! A special event quest! An unforgettable battle! I DIDN'T DIE!!! BUT I COULDN'T KILL IT EITHER!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 And eventually, the event ended. My battle with White Fatalis remained unfinished. But while remembering those old online hunts… Another monster suddenly came back to me. A very strange monster. An enormous creature floating in the sky. Something that looked less like a traditional dragon… And more like a gigantic flying octopus! YAMA TSUKAMI!!! THE FLOATING ELDER DRAGON!!! šŸ™ HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And here's the funny part. Was it difficult? NOT REALLY!!! Was it dangerous? Of course, it was still an Elder Dragon! But was it the kind of monster that made me want to throw my controller? NOT BECAUSE OF ITS ATTACKS!!! No, no, no. The problem was something completely different. IT TOOK SO DAMN LONG!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! šŸ—¼ WELCOME TO THE ANCIENT TOWER!!! First, imagine this. An enormous ancient tower. A mysterious structure stretching high into the sky. And somewhere above… A gigantic floating monster. YAMA TSUKAMI!!! Now, you'd think the difficult part would be fighting the monster. Right? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WRONG!!! Because before you could properly fight it… YOU HAD TO CLIMB!!! And climb. And climb. And climb some more! 🤣🤣🤣 WHY IS THIS TOWER SO TALL?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You start near the bottom. Then you have to make your way upward. Through the tower. Toward the place where you can actually confront this enormous floating creature. And remember… This was the PS2 era! No modern convenience to magically skip the entire journey. No instant teleport straight into the fight. You had to go through the process. ONE STEP AT A TIME!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ME: "WHERE'S THE MONSTER?!" PALICO: "UP THERE!!!" ME: "HOW FAR UP?!" PALICO: "VERY FAR!!!" ME: "…" ME: "I JUST WANT TO HIT THE OCTOPUS!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 šŸ™ FINALLY!!! YAMA TSUKAMI!!! And eventually… There it was. Floating above the ancient tower. YAMA TSUKAMI!!! A massive creature with a bizarre body and enormous tentacles. Something that looked like it had absolutely no business being airborne! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Seriously! WHO LOOKED AT A GIANT OCTOPUS AND DECIDED IT SHOULD FLY?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 But there it was. Floating. Majestically. Slowly. Very, very slowly. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And I was ready. Because for this hunt… I remembered using a particular weapon. A weapon I hadn't focused on much in my earlier stories. THE LANCE!!! šŸ›”ļø YES!!! THE LANCE!!! And my strategy? Oh, it was beautiful. Elegant. Sophisticated. A masterpiece of tactical combat. Are you ready? CHARGE!!! THRUST!!! THRUST!!! THRUST!!! GUARD!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 THAT'S IT!!! šŸ›”ļø THE GREAT LANCE STRATEGY!!! My entire fighting philosophy against Yama Tsukami could basically be summarized in four words. CHARGE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! GUARD!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! See the monster? CHAAAAARGE!!! Get close enough? POKE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! Something dangerous happening? GUAAAAARD!!! Then… REPEAT!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It wasn't some complicated strategy requiring perfect timing or an extraordinary secret technique. It was straightforward. And it worked well enough for me! YAMA TSUKAMI: "I AM AN ANCIENT ELDER DRAGON!!!" ME: "POKE!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "MY EXISTENCE DEFIES UNDERSTANDING!!!" ME: "POKE!!! POKE!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "I COMMAND THE SKIES!!!" ME: "GUARD!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YAMA TSUKAMI: "WILL YOU PLEASE TAKE ME SERIOUSLY?!?!" ME: "I AM!!!" ME: "THIS IS MY SERIOUS STRATEGY!!!" 🌚 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ā³ BUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM… Now, you might be wondering… If the monster wasn't particularly difficult for me… What made this hunt so memorable? Well… THE WAITING!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The problem wasn't simply dealing damage. It wasn't just defending against attacks. It was the entire process. Getting through the tower. Reaching the monster. Waiting for the right opportunities. Positioning yourself. And dealing with the fact that Yama Tsukami was a giant floating creature! EVERYTHING TOOK TIME!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I wasn't thinking… "OH NO!!! THIS MONSTER IS TOO STRONG!!!" I was thinking… "CAN WE PLEASE HURRY UP?!?!?!" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! šŸŒ€ THE CIRCULAR STAIRCASE!!! And then there was another mechanic I remember. Something particularly annoying. THE CIRCULAR STAIRCASE!!! Because if you wanted to jump onto Yama Tsukami's back to gather materials… You needed to use the right opportunity around that circular staircase area. YES!!! YOU COULD JUMP ONTO THE MONSTER!!! šŸ™ HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Now THAT was interesting! But of course… There was a catch. You couldn't simply jump onto its back whenever you felt like it. You had to be in the right place. Wait for the opportunity. And time the jump. Which meant… MORE WAITING!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Imagine me standing there. Watching this gigantic floating octopus. Trying to get into position. "COME ON…" "A LITTLE CLOSER…" "JUST A LITTLE MORE…" "NOW!!!" JUUUUUMP!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And if the opportunity wasn't right? Well… You'd have to wait for another chance. WHY IS COLLECTING MATERIALS MORE COMPLICATED THAN STABBING THE MONSTER?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 šŸŽ’ I JUST WANT TO GATHER MATERIALS!!! And naturally… As a Monster Hunter player… I couldn't ignore an opportunity to collect materials! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You know how it works. See a mining spot? MINE IT!!! See something you can gather? GATHER IT!!! See a monster whose back you can jump onto? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT MATERIALS I CAN GET!!! 🌚 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! So of course I wanted to try! But the process was ridiculous. First, climb the tower. Then find the monster. Then wait for the right position. Then use the circular staircase. Then jump! And hopefully… SUCCESS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ME: "YES!!! I MADE IT!!!" PALICO: "CONGRATULATIONS!!!" ME: "TIME TO GATHER!!!" PALICO: "WASN'T OUR ORIGINAL MISSION TO HUNT IT?" ME: "THAT CAN WAIT!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! THE MATERIALS COME FIRST!!! šŸ™ THE SLOWEST ELDER DRAGON IN THE WORLD!!! And then… The hunt continued. Yama Tsukami floated around. I followed. It moved. I repositioned. I attacked. I defended. I waited. And waited. And waited. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YAMA TSUKAMI: "BEHOLD MY MAJESTIC MOVEMENT!!!" ME: "CAN YOU MOVE FASTER?!?!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "I AM AN ANCIENT BEING!!!" ME: "THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO MOVE LIKE ONE!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YAMA TSUKAMI: "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!!!" ME: "I HAVE BEEN CLIMBING THIS TOWER FOREVER!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "THEN YOU HAVE LEARNED PATIENCE!!!" ME: "I HAVE LEARNED TO HATE STAIRS!!!" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! āš”ļø BACK TO THE LANCE!!! But whenever I finally had the opportunity to attack… I knew exactly what to do. CHARGE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! GUARD!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And then again! CHARGE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! GUARD!!! Again! CHARGE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It was almost relaxing compared with some of the monsters I'd fought before. No Lunastra-style nightmare that made me quit the game for years. No Plesioth hip checks from another dimension. No Cephadrome constantly swimming through the sand while I desperately chased it! Just a giant floating Elder Dragon… And my trusty lance! POKE!!! POKE!!! POKE!!! 🤣🤣🤣 āŒ› THE TRUE FINAL BOSS: MY OWN PATIENCE!!! And here's what I find funniest about this memory. Some monsters are difficult because they hit too hard. Some are difficult because they move too quickly. Some are difficult because their attacks are difficult to understand. But Yama Tsukami? For me… THE MAIN CHALLENGE WAS HOW MUCH TIME EVERYTHING TOOK!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The climbing. The waiting. The positioning. The jumping. The gathering. The fighting. The entire process! And because the monster itself didn't feel particularly difficult… The long journey became even more noticeable. "I KNOW I CAN HANDLE THIS MONSTER!!!" "SO WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG?!?!?!" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Honestly… Sometimes a hunt doesn't need to be brutally difficult to be exhausting. Sometimes… IT JUST NEEDS TO BE REALLY, REALLY SLOW!!! šŸ† ANOTHER UNFORGETTABLE HUNT!!! And unlike White Fatalis… Yama Tsukami wasn't a monster I remembered as an impossible opponent. I could fight it. I understood the basic rhythm. My lance strategy was straightforward. And the battle itself didn't feel especially hard. But the whole experience was memorable for a completely different reason. IT WAS A TEST OF ENDURANCE!!! Not necessarily the endurance of my character. THE ENDURANCE OF THE PERSON HOLDING THE CONTROLLER!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Because after all that climbing and waiting… I just wanted the hunt to be over! ā¤ļø THE STRANGEST PART OF MONSTER HUNTER 2!!! Looking back at these memories… I'm amazed by how different each monster felt. Bulldrome taught me how to dodge charges. Yian Kut-Ku taught me persistence. Plesioth taught me that hitboxes could apparently exist in another dimension. Kushala Daora taught me to deal with wind. Lunastra taught me how to suffer. Teostra taught me that suffering could actually be useful preparation. White Fatalis taught me that surviving wasn't the same as winning. And Yama Tsukami? YAMA TSUKAMI TAUGHT ME THAT SOMETIMES THE MOST DANGEROUS ENEMY IS BOREDOM!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣 A legendary Elder Dragon! An ancient tower! A gigantic floating octopus! And one exhausted hunter thinking… "CAN WE PLEASE FINISH THIS ALREADY?!?!?!" 🐱 FAREWELL, YAMA TSUKAMI!!! Dear Yama Tsukami… You were strange. You were enormous. You were fascinating. And you were one of the most unusual monsters I encountered in Monster Hunter 2. But please… NEXT TIME, CAN WE SKIP THE STAIRS?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YAMA TSUKAMI: "I AM A MYSTERIOUS ELDER DRAGON!!!" ME: "YES!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "I FLOAT ABOVE THE ANCIENT TOWER!!!" ME: "YES!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "MY EXISTENCE IS BEYOND HUMAN COMPREHENSION!!!" ME: "YES!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "THEN WHAT IS YOUR FINAL IMPRESSION OF ME?!?!" ME: "…" ME: "YOU TAKE TOO DAMN LONG!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YAMA TSUKAMI: "THAT'S IT?!?!" ME: "AND YOUR BACK IS ANNOYING TO JUMP ONTO!!!" YAMA TSUKAMI: "…" ME: "BUT YOU'RE PRETTY COOL!!!" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! šŸ—¼ THE FLOATING ELDER DRAGON!!! And so… Another memory from my Monster Hunter 2 days returns. A gigantic monster floating through the ancient tower. A long climb. A circular staircase. A carefully timed jump onto its back. A chance to gather materials. And a lance strategy consisting of… CHARGE!!! THRUST!!! THRUST!!! THRUST!!! GUARD!!! 🤣🤣🤣 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! DIFFICULTY: NOT TOO BAD!!! TIME CONSUMPTION: ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! PATIENCE REQUIRED: MAXIMUM!!! MEMORY VALUE: PRICELESS!!! And honestly? That's exactly why I still remember it. Not because it was my hardest battle. Not because it was my greatest victory. But because… IT WAS THE GIANT FLOATING OCTOPUS THAT MADE ME CLIMB AN ENTIRE TOWER JUST TO POKE IT WITH A LANCE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! šŸ™šŸ›”ļø And somewhere out there… More forgotten memories from my PS2 adventures are still waiting to return. Another map? Another monster? Another ridiculous hunting experience? Who knows?! BUT THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES!!! To be continued! šŸ±šŸŽ®ā¤ļø #MonsterHunter #MonsterHunter2 #MH2Dos #YamaTsukami #ElderDragon #Lance #AncientTower #PS2 #RetroGaming #GamingMemories #MonsterHunterMemories #GamingNostalgia
