I did an embarrassing audit last weekend: seven AI subscriptions on my card, three I actually open. The other four were pure option value. Insurance for the week some model ships a feature I might need once. That is how this industry quietly repriced itself. Nobody sells you tokens anymore. They sell you a seat at a table you rarely sit at. The per-token price wars are theater if your real bill is four $20 seats collecting dust. Tokens are honest. Subscriptions are a bet that you will forget to cancel. My rule now: every AI subscription gets a quarterly trial by fire. If I cannot name what it did for me this month, it dies.
