Google just deleted the most important sentence in its privacy policy. Since 2021 it said it plainly: "We don't show you personalized ads based on your content from Drive, Gmail, or Photos." The October 16 update keeps that sentence, then adds a tail: "...unless you choose to make data from these services available to other Google services that support personalized ads." The trigger is Personal Intelligence, the opt-in that lets AI Mode and Gemini read across your apps. Enable the useful feature, and your inbox quietly joins the ad pipeline. Same pipe, two uses. I don't buy the "it's just a clarification" line. A clarification explains; this one expands what's allowed. To be fair, it's a permission slip, not a confession: advertisers still don't see your inbox, and a never-connected account is unchanged. But the bargain is now bundled, and bundled bargains are how consent gets manufactured quietly. You can unwind it: Search Services Personalization, disconnect the apps or switch off Personalized Recommendations. Did you already opt in? #Privacy #Google
