As of the morning of October 24, 2026, according to sources within Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, Starlink/Starshield has resumed operating at speeds exceeding 161 km/h (100 mph). The ministry said testing is continuing at higher speeds to determine the actual upper limit and establish the extent to which service has been restored. Previously, beginning around October 13–14, a clear restriction was in place: terminals would disconnect when moving faster than approximately 160–161 km/h (99–100 mph). This significantly affected Ukrainian interceptor drones used to intercept Russian jet-powered drones capable of reaching speeds of 400–500+ km/h (249–311+ mph), as well as certain strike and communications missions. As recently as October 23, Zelenskyy and several other Ukrainian officials continued to report that the restrictions remained in place. In interviews, including with ABC News, Zelenskyy stated that restrictions were still in effect and that Ukraine was checking the situation every morning and every night. However, by the morning of October 24, sources within Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense had confirmed to multiple Ukrainian media outlets, including LIGA, RBC, and the Kyiv Post, that stable operation at speeds exceeding 161 km/h had been observed. Further testing is underway to determine the upper speed limit. The situation remains fluid. Some reports continue to reference Zelenskyy’s more recent statements, but the latest Ministry of Defense test results indicate that the previous hard speed restriction has been relaxed or lifted. Whether the service is now completely unrestricted in terms of speed, and whether the change applies to all terminals and mission types, remains to be confirmed through further testing.
