Kim Jong Un made a one-day trip to China today — Dandong only. No Beijing, no meeting with Xi. Wang Huning accompanied him throughout: a wreath-laying, a visit to the War to Resist US Aggression memorial, meetings, and a car factory tour, before seeing him off at the New Yalu River Bridge. Per BBC Korean, this is his sixth China trip since taking power — the previous five all included Xi. Korean papers noted the reception by China's "No. 4 figure." Why Dandong? The New Yalu River Bridge, idle for about 12 years since 2014, opened on October 15. Tomorrow marks 76 years since Chinese volunteers entered the Korean War, and a key Party plenum is imminent. The death rumors traced back to an October 19 post by US-based dissident Xie Wanjun, offered without evidence. Seoul's NIS told parliament on October 23 that the claims were false. What the footage proves: someone acting as Kim completed the full program, with a Politburo Standing Committee member at his side. What it doesn't prove: his long-term health, or who really holds power in Pyongyang. No media outlet has produced evidence for the body-double theory. Three questions remain: why not Beijing? Why right before the plenum? And how will KCNA report it? Who do you think he most wanted to see this day?
