I hope Elon Musk will not act foolishly. He needs to understand the insidious nature of political tactics and recognize the information warfare strategy that Vladimir Putin and Russia are pursuing! The root cause of the problem is Vladimir Putin and Russia! This is the underlying action that set everything in motion and became the starting point for the entire chain of subsequent discussions and controversies! Putin, the Russian war criminal, sees you all fighting among yourselves, attacking one another, and creating division and fragmentation. He is getting exactly what he wants. He is pleased to see this happening because he is achieving the objectives and effects of his information warfare strategy. He sees this as a sign of your foolishness! Looking at the direct chain of cause and effect, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is the starting point and root cause of everything that followed. On February 24, 2022, Putin ordered the launch of what he called a “special military operation,” initiating a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This action directly led to the following consequences: 1. The destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure and the disruption of communications. Ukraine urgently needed reliable satellite communications on the battlefield. Starlink was therefore rapidly introduced and became a critical operational tool. 2. The emergence of disputes over the military use of satellite communications. The full-scale war made drones, precision strikes, and long-range communications routine elements of military operations. This, in turn, triggered disputes over whether civilian and military Starlink services could be used for offensive operations, as well as disagreements over contractual restrictions, speed limitations, geofencing, and the allocation of responsibility. 3. Military assistance, procurement contracts, and disputes over decision-making authority. The United States, European countries, and other supporters provided military assistance and entered into procurement agreements, including arrangements involving SpaceX and Starlink. These developments gave rise to subsequent disputes over the limits of permitted use, escalation risks, and who should have the authority to make operational decisions. Without Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine would not have become so heavily dependent on Starlink on the front lines. Nor would the repeated disputes among Musk, SpaceX, the Pentagon, the White House, and the Ukrainian government over coverage, speed restrictions, and offensive use have emerged in their current form. All these controversies are consequences of an ongoing war, not independent problems that arose in isolation. Putin’s decisions, together with Russia’s continuing military operations, are the source of the current chain of events. The differing positions taken by various parties over the subsequent limits of technological use, contractual provisions, and the risks of escalation have all emerged within this established reality. The broader historical background is more complex, including Russia’s 2014 seizure of Crimea and its involvement in the Donbas conflict. Nevertheless, the full-scale invasion in 2022 was the immediate trigger for the current situation and remains the essential starting point for any discussion of these technological and military assistance disputes. Do not lose sight of the root cause by becoming consumed by the disputes that followed. Recognize where this chain of events began, understand the strategic consequences of internal division, and do not allow Putin to achieve his objectives by turning those who oppose Russian aggression against one another!
