Plato: The Allegory of the Cave Imagine a group of prisoners who have lived inside a dark cave since childhood. They are chained in place and can only see shadows moving across a wall. Because they have never seen anything else, they believe the shadows are the real world. One day, a prisoner escapes. Outside the cave, he discovers sunlight, trees, mountains, and a world far greater than anything he imagined. When he returns to tell the others, they struggle to believe him. Life Lesson What we believe to be true may simply be what we have always been taught. Our families, education, culture, and social circles shape the way we see the world. Growth often begins when we question things we once accepted without thinking.
