Major Copyright Lawsuits Against AI Companies (Suno, Anthropic, and others) Independent publisher Reservoir Media sued Suno over 1,050 compositions and Anthropic (Claude) over the lyrics of 853 works (including songs by Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, Madonna, and Evanescence). It seeks statutory damages that could reach hundreds of millions of dollars, plus claims related to copyright management information and circumvention. Separately, Elvis Presley’s rights holders (led by Authentic Brands Group) sued Anthropic over 274 songs used to train models, seeking roughly $41 million in damages. This is one of the first high-profile suits focused on a single artist’s catalog. These join ongoing cases from major labels (UMG and Sony) against Suno. Suno has also admitted it has not deleted all the recordings used to train its models.
