Spotify’s Large-Scale Crackdown on AI “Slop” + Push for Licensed Remix Tools Spotify reported that it removed more than 50 million AI-generated “slop and spam” tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations so far in 2026. These tracks remain on the platform but are no longer surfaced unless actively searched. This is on top of more than 75 million spam tracks previously removed for rule violations. At the same time, Spotify is advancing a licensed AI remixing/covers tool. Partners including Universal Music Group, Believe/TuneCore, Merlin, and Kobalt have signed on, with an emphasis on artist consent, credit, and compensation from a dedicated royalty pool.
