$MSFT will offer buyout packages to 60,000 employees in its latest round of cost-cutting. Microsoft has about 220,000 employees worldwide, so this equates to roughly 27% of its workforce — nearly one-third. How many will actually take it remains to be seen in the annual report. If all 60,000 accept the buyouts, it could directly save over $10 billion a year. The money saved will still go into AI, and the company will likely ramp up layoffs and buyouts even further down the line — unless AI development stalls or comes to an end. Looking at Anthropic’s latest IPO prospectus, its revenue per employee is $6.6 million, which is top-tier globally and higher than Nvidia and Apple. AI replacing ordinary workers is already a done deal.
