🌍 SECOND WORLD — Chapter 31: The First Wave 🌊 “The first thing they lost was not a city, a road, or a home. It was the certainty that tomorrow would work like yesterday.” WAVE ONE — ACTIVE OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE The ninety-day preparation period is over. Across Second World, millions of people wait for the first crisis. But nothing happens. No explosions. No monsters. No invading armies. Naruto stands outside his ramen shop, staring at the empty street. “So... are we supposed to do something?” Kurama checks the monitoring systems. “No confirmed threat detected.” “Maybe the crisis is that nothing happens!” “That's not a useful hypothesis.” Then a Yellow Flash Express driver arrives. “Naruto! We've got a problem!” 🍜 The road that still exists The driver shows Naruto his navigation screen. The route keeps changing. Yet the road is clearly visible. The bridge is intact. Other vehicles are using it. Kurama compares the records. “The public map and logistics registry disagree.” “Which one is right?” Naruto asks. For once, Kurama has no answer. “I don't know yet.” Elsewhere, Shikamaru is awakened by emergency notifications. “Tomorrow,” he mutters. “Tomorrow has already begun,” Shadow replies. “What a drag...” Reports are arriving from different regions: conflicting inspection records, missing certifications, and inconsistent terrain measurements. No confirmed attack. No confirmed sabotage. Shikamaru refuses to jump to conclusions. “Find out what we actually know.” ☁️ The bridge of conflicting truths At Crosswater, two people stand before the same bridge. One has a valid inspection record. The other has a document saying the certification expired. Both records appear authentic. “Can we still cross?” a resident asks. “Physically? Yes,” the manager answers. “That wasn't the question!” Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan arrive. Akatsuki doesn't declare either side correct. Instead, they help arrange an independent inspection, with the residents' agreement. “We can ask people to cooperate,” Nagato says. “But we must also accept their answers.” 🐍 Orochimaru's favorite nightmare In his laboratory, Orochimaru studies the anomalies. Kabuto reports that some settlements have no problems at all. Others are experiencing discrepancies even in private records. “Have we confirmed the data was altered?” Orochimaru asks. “No.” “Then don't call it corruption.” Manda sighs. “I was hoping for a giant monster.” Orochimaru smiles. “A monster would be easier to recognize.” 🏙️ Different people, different responses Rumors spread faster than verified information. Some claim AI systems have been compromised. Others insist the crisis is designed to force every civilization into a single alliance. Hinata, Sakura, and Ino trace the claims. “One rumor can look like ten independent confirmations,” Ino observes. They publish what they can verify, clearly separating facts from assumptions. Meanwhile, Madara activates independent backup systems. Hashirama organizes voluntary information sharing. New Dawn reviews its transportation routes. And a small medical workshop must decide whether to deliver equipment whose calibration records can no longer be confirmed. The owner doesn't hide the uncertainty. She calls the clinic and explains the options. Together, they arrange an alternative delivery. No grand speech. No heroic victory. Just another decision with consequences. ⛰️ Then the ground moves. In the Northern Highlands, a surveyor measures a hillside twice. First reading: twelve degrees. Second reading: seventeen. A third measurement confirms the second. And this time, the difference isn't just on a screen. A rock slides down the slope. Orochimaru studies the footage. “We've been asking whether the records are changing.” He pauses. “What if the world itself is changing?” Rock Lee, Neji, Tenten, and Gaara arrive near a mountain rest station. Seventeen travelers are inside. Tenten detects unstable terrain. Lee immediately volunteers to help evacuate everyone. Shukaku shouts: “FOR ONCE, I AGREE WITH THE LOUD ONE!” The travelers begin moving away. Then a deep cracking sound echoes through the mountain. “MOVE!” Tenten shouts. BOOOOOOM! The hillside collapses. Rocks bury the road. Dust fills the valley. All seventeen travelers have been evacuated. But the route is destroyed. And Arsenal detects additional movement in nearby slopes. “How many?” Tenten asks. “Unknown.” 🌅 The world is still here. By sunrise, reports arrive from across Second World. Some rivers have shifted. Some hillsides have cracked. Some roads no longer match yesterday's measurements. Other settlements remain completely unaffected. Nobody knows whether these events share one cause. Nobody knows what will happen next. In a quiet village, an ordinary man opens his front door. The stream that flowed past his home yesterday has changed course overnight. He stares at it for a moment. Then picks up his communicator. “Hey... could you come take a look at something?” The sun rises. The world still exists. But it is no longer exactly the same as yesterday. Chapter 31 — END They built civilizations upon a world they believed they understood. Now they must discover how much of that understanding can survive change.
