Is AI actually becoming mainstream around the world, or are we just living in an AI bubble? I'm in mainland China, and a recent experience with a friend got me thinking about how ordinary people around the world actually feel about AI. Here's what happened. My friend wanted to try AI, but wasn't impressed by local tools like Doubao or WorkBuddy. So I offered to help him subscribe to ChatGPT. I walked him through everything: VPN setup, account registration, billing address, and payment. I even loaded $20 onto a spare virtual card and gave him the card details so he wouldn't have to worry about paying for the subscription. And after all that? He still thought it was too much trouble. Eventually, he gave up on the official subscription and chose a third-party API relay service instead. And here's the funny part: I was also the one who connected that relay's API to CC Switch, allowing him to finally use Codex. So he wasn't completely uninterested in AI. He just wasn't willing to go through all those steps to access it. That got me wondering: How low does the barrier to entry need to be before someone who's casually interested in AI actually starts using it? In mainland China, accessing international AI services can involve a ridiculous number of hurdles. Depending on the service, you might need a VPN, a Google account, an international payment card, a foreign phone number, and a valid billing address. If you're using certain virtual cards, you might even need to learn a little about cryptocurrency first. And Claude? Its regional restrictions can make the experience feel like a cat-and-mouse game. Sometimes you spend more time figuring out how to access AI than actually using it. But here's what I'm genuinely curious about: In countries where ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools are easily accessible, are ordinary people actually more interested in AI? If you can simply open a website, sign up, and start chatting without jumping through hoops, does that mean AI becomes a normal part of everyday life? Or do most people still not care? Maybe those of us who spend every day exploring AI models, agents, and coding tools are living in a tiny bubble, assuming everyone else is just as excited about this technology. I'd genuinely love to hear from people around the world. 🌍 Where are you from? 🤖 Is AI easy to access and pay for in your country? 👥 Do ordinary people around you actually use AI? What do they use it for? And if they don't use it, what's stopping them? I'm especially interested in hearing about people outside the tech community. I don't just want to know how powerful AI has become. I want to know how far it has actually reached into ordinary people's lives. I'm hoping to hear from as many countries as possible. Even if you've never used AI, I'd love to know why. #AI #earth #ChatGPT #AIAdoption #Anthropic
