Mitch McConnell, in the WSJ (Oct 25), calls Trump's line that Russia "has been fine on Ukraine" "factually wrong, strategically naive and morally bankrupt," and warns: "The president should plan accordingly." I read the board differently. The same day, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Moscow, Beijing and Washington are "in principle" ready for a Putin–Xi–Trump meeting at APEC in Shenzhen. My read: Trump isn't playing Ukraine as one square. He wants Putin and Xi at one table, nuclear arms on it. I expect him to keep Putin talking until Shenzhen and treat Congress's pressure as leverage, not a stop sign. Congress plays the bad cop. Trump then tells Putin: I'm holding them back, but not for long, so deal now. https://www.wsj.com/opinion/coddling-putin-wont-bring-peace-to-ukraine-2464d660
