Real talk for anyone living in Canada 🇨🇦 — don't be too nice, it'll cost you. Here's what nobody tells you: 💰 MONEY & BENEFITS • File your taxes even with $0 income (Wealthsimple Tax is free). Students too. CRA uses your return to decide what you can claim — GST/HST credit (now the Canada Groceries & Essentials Benefit, up to ~$950/yr for singles, paid quarterly), the T2202 tuition credit, and rent rebates in some provinces. No return = no money. • Getting shorted at work? Unpaid wages, no overtime, no breaks can all be illegal. File with your province's Employment Standards. Don't stay quiet. 🎓 SCHOOL & PHARMACY • Grade feels wrong? Every course has a formal grade review / Academic Appeal. Most schools have a free Student Ombudsperson too. • Sick, family emergency, mental health rough? Apply for Academic Concession — a deferral or makeup exam, usually just needs a Medical Note or Counsellor's letter. Don't tank your GPA toughing it out. • At the pharmacy, always ask "do you have a generic version?" Same ingredients, way cheaper. 🛡️ SCAMS & YOUR RIGHTS • A call from "IRCC" or "the police" demanding an e-transfer or threatening arrest? 100% scam. Hang up. If unsure, find the number on the official IRCC site and call back. Never panic-transfer. • Flight delay 3h+ that's the airline's fault (not weather/safety)? APPR owes you $400/$700/$1,000 (big airlines) or $125/$250/$500 (small) by delay length. Bumped for overbooking: up to $2,400. Lost/damaged bags: up to $2,100 plus your baggage fee back. Claim in writing within a year, then escalate to the CTA. Canada runs on rules — if you're in the right, speak up. 🇨🇦
