I learned a fact today: when our ancestors started walking upright instead of on all fours, their pelvises got shorter and wider. The pelvic floor also had to get stronger to support our organs and keep us stable as we walked. That’s why the birth canal isn’t a wide, straight passage. Childbirth is harder for humans than for many other primates. In a way, we’re all born early, which means we need years of care. That’s when social roles started to split up, eventually turning into different roles for men and women—and, supposedly, the origin of today’s gender divide. So I’ve got a brilliant solution to end the gender divide: let’s go back to walking on all fours and stretch our pelvises back out.
