Google just got a haiku back from orbit, and I think the poem is the least interesting part. Its Project Suncatcher prototype put a Gemma 4 model on a data center class TPU in space, launched October 1 on a rideshare with Planet, and downlinked its first reply over Svalbard: Blue marble below, data streams in silent grace, starlight feeds my core. I read that as a boot, run, and downlink check, not an orbital data center yet. The real test is still ahead, whether the chips hold up under heat and radiation for months, and whether compute up there ever beats the cost of keeping it on the ground. Would you bet on compute moving off Earth before it gets cheap enough down here? #AI #SpaceTech #TPU https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/models-and-research/google-research/project-suncatcher-satellite-response/
