A negotiated settlement. Who is that negotiated settlement between Russia and Ukraine? How can you have a negotiated settlement between Russia and Ukraine if you don’t have the ability to talk to both Russia and Ukraine? How can you talk to both Russia and Ukraine unless you interact with them? And so I think today is just one more opportunity to continue to interact with the Russian system. As I’ve said to you earlier in my conversations, the president does not view meeting with someone or talking to someone as legitimizing everything they do or everything they stand for. What he does, from a practical perspective, because he’s a person that comes from the common sense world of business, not from a traditional foreign policy or traditional and archaic political class, is that what he doesn’t accept is the idea that somehow meeting with someone legitimizes them or makes you agree with everything that they do. It’s very simple. Everybody wants there to be a deal that brings about an end to this war. How can you do a deal unless you’re meeting with them, unless you’re talking to them, unless you’re interacting with them? And that, apart from that, is the fact that Russia possesses a large number of nuclear weapons. Perhaps people don’t remember that, but we will remind you that I think it is important. No matter what, putting everything else aside, it is always important that the United States and Russia have communications at some level, because of the danger of escalation in the future, if God forbid something were to go wrong. So, look, our position on it remains clear, and that is if we can play a role in mediating an end to that conflict, the United States is prepared to play that role. And to play that role, we have to have the ability to communicate with both sides. We talk to the Ukrainians plenty. We talk to them, you know, as much, if not more, than we talk to the Russian side. But we have to be able to talk to the Russian side, and one of the ways to do that is to invite them to forums like this, where they’re not just hearing from us, but potentially hearing from other countries that are there as well. On the next row. Oh, wait, I went this side. Okay. All right. This guy’s not going to stop. Go ahead, man. Thank you so much, Mr. Alex Raffel. This better be a good question, because I wasn’t going to call him. Go ahead. Just to follow up on what you just said on Lavrov, can you give us a better sense of your interaction with Lavrov this time? My what? With your interaction with Lavrov. Well, we didn’t have a meeting. We spoke. I mean, we spoke about, you know, but we didn’t have a meeting. you know, we spoke just briefly about, the opportunity for our leaders to potentially interact at APEC, next month. And, we spoke about, you know, there, there’s no firm commitments about G20. and, and that was, but the, we didn’t have any, we didn’t have a meeting. What makes you believe that negotiated peace is achievable? Thanks so much. Well, I don’t know if negotiated peace is achievable in Ukraine. That’s what we’re trying to find out. it, but I don’t think anyone here is claiming that we’re on the verge of a negotiated settlement. I think what I can say to you is that the United States, you know, we have people that basically, you know, Jared and Steve is an example, work on this portfolio almost full-time between that and Iran. That’s all they focus on. They don’t focus on the Quad. They don’t focus on Western Hemisphere. They don’t focus, they focus on that. And we’ve invested, to say we’ve invested a lot of high-level attention to that topic. But, you know, we’re going to continue to try and see if we can reach an agreement, but I’m not here to tell you we’re on the verge of one, but hopefully we are. But, today, you know, we didn’t have any meetings about that at this, at this, G20 gathering. Okay, in this row right here.
