On one hand, I agree with Noah that the whole woke madness started from the gay right movement, and same sex marriage set an example that movement can modify the law if it gets loud enough.... But @AlexToughTakes's point also resonate deep down. Sex orientation has a deep biological factor there, I would understand it ask it is just like sex, that you are assigned and cannot change. If someone is attracted to same sex, they are... So some legal protection for their relationship is beneficial.... To be honest, if everything happens again, rather than to modify the definition of marriage, it is much better idea creating a new concept for same sex couple to provide same or similar legal and social protection on their relationship. But there is what if, damage had been done, the woke madness situation today, everyone took some part of the responsibility, we say "no" way too late. But later is better than never.
