I’ve maintained a positive view of $QCOM but a lot of what I’ve been hearing from industry contacts lately has been concerning. Several core businesses are facing pressure, including Snapdragon (Exynos gaining ground), modems (Apple’s own modems), and RF (growing supply from Chinese vendors). With Qualcomm also pushing aggressively into the AIDC business, this looks like a challenging period. The company needs to maintain the competitiveness of its core businesses while building new sources of growth. I hope this round of layoffs affecting 7% to 8% of the workforce will be the last. Hopefully, the restructuring will go beyond cost cutting to strengthen its product competitiveness and the organization’s ability to execute.
