国立故宫博物院敬供 --- The Mahāratnakūṭa-sūtra, known as 大寶積經, is a significant Buddhist scripture from the Tang dynasty (618–907). This edition comprises 120 scrolls, containing 49 independent sutras compiled from earlier Chinese translations by multiple translators during the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern dynasties, alongside later translations by the South Indian monk Bodhiruci in the Tang Wu Zetian period. The National Palace Museum houses a gilt manuscript copy from the Ming dynasty’s Xuande reign (circa 1430s). This manuscript is in accordian-style binding, with one scroll per volume, ten volumes per case, totaling twelve cases and 120 volumes. Each page, about 30.4 cm tall and 14.5 cm wide, is neatly written in T’ai-ge style regular script on sheepskin paper, featuring six lines of seventeen characters each. Frontispieces include title plaques and Buddhist illustrations, while closing pages contain images of the guardian deity Wei Tuo. Historical records suggest this manuscript and a similar gilt copy of the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sutra were likely overseen by the Ming Buddhist master Huijin, a key figure engaged by the Yongle Emperor in Buddhist scripture compilation and printing, reflecting important religious and cultural preservation efforts of the Ming era.
