ChatGPT and Codex are getting one shared wallet. OpenAI's help center, updated Oct 31, says that starting in December, the usage allowance on Plus, Pro and Business plans will be shared across ChatGPT and Codex, measured in tokens. The stronger the model and the harder the task, the more it draws down. One thing to get right: Instant chat does not draw from this allowance. Everyday quick questions stay outside the meter. What burns the pool is advanced-model reasoning and agent work — every token Codex spends is a token your chats no longer have. When the allowance runs out, the options are to wait for the reset, upgrade, or buy credits. Combined remaining usage and reset times will live in Settings, under Usage. OpenAI expects most users won't hit the wait more often than they do now — but the exact December switch date and the per-plan token totals are still unpublished.
